Video is HOT! Video sells, engages and helps your audience get a feel for who you are before even speaking to you in many cases. It is a fantastic tool in business to set yourself apart from your competition as well as demonstrate that you are an expert in your field or niche. I HIGHLY recommend it and I HIGHLY recommend you get over any shyness etc. Just go for it, practice and you will do great.
Step #1: The Setup – Make sure you have great lighting on your face as well as behind you. Natural sunlight works great, so long as you don’t face the window. Otherwise it will wash out your face.
Also, make sure there isn’t any messy paperwork or other distractions. Make sure you have a clean, and nice looking space as a backdrop. Plants work well and a painting or your diplomas and credentials work well too. (Tricks…take the shade off the lamp near your desk and place one on each side of your computer. That will light up your face nicely without having to buy any fancy lighting.)
Step #2: Introduction – You’ll want to have a nice introduction. “Hello, this is Dr. Jennie Byrne of Cognitive Psychiatry of Chapel Hill and today I am going to teach you 3 Ways to Overcome Panic Attacks Without Medication. It’s as simple as that. But, you need to come up with a nice grabbing headline that is specific to overcoming a common problem your audience deals with.
Step #3 Video Discussion Then you want to go into the body of your talk. This should be about 2-3 minutes in length unless you just have very juicy content that people really want. So, here is where you talk about your tips in good detail.
Step #4 The Recap or Review – Give a quick recap of what you’ve just introduced to your audience. Again, just run through the bulleted points and maybe highlight the most important one here once more.
Step #5 The Closing – Sometimes we get to end of the video and don’t have a great exit strategy. Always, know your exit strategy. For educational videos I like for my clients to end it like this, “Thank you for watching today, we hope this was helpful. If you have any additional questions for us please do not hesitate to reach out and contact us. We are glad to help in anyway we can.”
